The three professional nursing organizations that interest me are the American Nurses Association (ANA), the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN), and the National League for Nursing (NLN). ANA is the largest and oldest professional nursing organization that represents more than 4 Million registered nurses. The aim of the organization is to foster high nursing practice standards, promote an ethical and safe working environment, bolster the nurses' wellness, and advocate for the health issues that affect nurses and the entire public. For one to be a member of ANA, one must have an active registered nurse license (ANA, 2026.). The focus of ANA is to provide resources for professional development, improve the quality of the nursing profession, and advocate for issues that affect nurses. AACN is dedicated to providing critical and acute care in nursing and for one to be a member, one must have an active registered nurse license, pay the membership fees, and have an interest in critical and acute care (AACN, 2026.). NLN is dedicated to nursing excellence by providing nurses with an opportunity for networking opportunities, professional development, nursing research grants, and assessment services. The organization represents the nursing education programs in nursing agencies, healthcare organizations, and higher education. The focus of NLN is to elevate the nurses by providing them with professional sources and building their skills and knowledge (NLN, 2026.). For one to be a member, one must be in various nursing organizations, schools of nursing, and individual graduate students.
How do these organizations align to your goals and worldview?
The organization aligns with my goals as it helps nurses acquire the necessary knowledge and skills that enhance professional development. I am interested in nursing advocacy and all these professional organizations emphasize patient advocacy. Additionally, all these professional organizations focus on advocating for the health of nurses, promoting high care standards, and advancing the nursing profession.
