"The Essentials: Core Competencies for Professional Nursing Education," represents the core competencies of professional nursing education and provides a framework that nursing programs use to prepare professional nurses. The RN-BSN program at Grand Canyon University meets the requirements for clinical competencies as defined by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) and the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN), using both direct and indirect care experiences for practicing nurses. In your practicum course, you will complete these hours with a preceptor and work to develop a change project.

Which of the 10 domains in the "The Essentials: Core Competencies for Professional Nursing Education" are you interested in learning more about and why?

There are various domains discussed that I am interested in. They include; quality improvement, evidence-based practice, professionalism, leadership, and safety. I would like to learn more about evidence-based practice as it discusses on the importance of integrating literature, patient preferences, and clinical expertise in care delivery. The quality improvement domain is essential in determining the importance of improving the safety and quality healthcare system. Safety in healthcare focuses on minimizing the risk to healthcare providers and patients through the improvement of individual performance and system effectiveness (Sherwood & Barnsteiner, 2021). The domain of professionalism is essential in demonstrating ethical principles and professional values in providing nursing care. Additionally, I would like to be a leader in healthcare and the domain of leadership will enable me to help others achieve optimal health outcomes.

Based on the readings in the Class and Topic 1 Resources, what are some characteristics of successful students and what strategies can you implement to be a successful student?

Successful students have various characteristics that all students should adopt. These students can manage their time effectively by creating a viable study schedule. Successful students have high levels of self-discipline as despite challenges, they stay highly motivated and focused (Zimmerman et al., 2023). Active learning is another trait of a successful student as they engage actively in the learning process and are highly organized in terms of how they keep their notes and study materials. For a student to be successful, they should develop a proper study routine, set clear goals, seek academic help, and take advantage of the study resources.

Identify a role model or mentor who would be able to support your professional growth.

I would choose a role model as a person who can provide me with advice, guidance, and support. When choosing a mentor or a role model, I will consider factors such as their expertise and experience, ethical behavior, professionalism and commitment to nursing, and their willingness to share experiences and knowledge. A potential mentor would be my instructor, the leader of nursing, or someone I look up to in the profession.
