The major ethical issues in nursing research are privacy and confidentiality, informed consent, respect for autonomy, beneficence and non-maleficence, and justice. Informed consent refers to the process of acquiring voluntary agreement to participate in research from the research participants. It ensures that research participants have an understanding of all aspects of research. Researchers must respect participants' privacy by not revealing their identities and securely storing the data collected so that it cannot be assessed by third parties (Larkin et al., 2019). The principles of nonmaleficence and beneficence require the research participants to engage in actions that yield less harm and more benefits. It is crucial for the researchers to respect the autonomy of the participants including the right to withdraw from research at any point. On the other hand, justice ensures that all the burdens and benefits of research are fairly distributed and no participants are exploited during research (Larkin et al., 2019).
