Discuss characteristic findings of an immune dysfunction.
The body is prone to immune system disorders that can be classified as immune system overactivity or immune deficiency. Immune system overactivity causes the body to damage its own tissues and this is what is referred to as autoimmune diseases that decrease the ability of the body to fight infections and this increases the body's vulnerability. Immune dysfunction is characterized by long-lasting and frequent infections that are harder to treat than the infections of an individual with a normal immune system (Mayo Clinic, 2022). A person with a healthy immune system is prone to opportunistic infections. The signs and symptoms of immune dysfunction depend on the specific type of immune dysfunction disorder. Some of the common signs and symptoms that are experienced in all the dysfunction include recurrent and frequent ear infections, sinus infections, bronchitis, recurrent pneumonia, skin infections, inflammation in the internal organs, blood disorders, digestive symptoms such as diarrhea, nausea, and loss of appetite, delayed growth and autoimmune disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis and lupus (Mayo Clinic, 2022).
Explain what symptomology the patient would exhibit and how these symptoms may complicate daily living and relationships.
Patients with immune dysfunction exhibit symptoms that complicate their daily living and relations with other people. Immune dysfunction causes the patients to have infections that take a long period of time to recover. These infections can disrupt the daily routine of individuals, and lead to absence from work, school, and other social activities. The patient's quality of life and productivity are negatively impaired by immune dysfunction. Immune dysfunctions lead to economic impacts as they lead to frequent visits to the hospitals, and hospital visits and they increase the need to consume expensive medication (Fernandez, 2023). The dysfunctions impose a heavy emotional and mental burden on the patients and the patients' families. Immune dysfunctions lead to the physical symptoms of pain, discomfort, chronic fatigue, and pain that prevents an individual from actively engaging in activities and this can lead to frustration and dependency. Additionally, immune dysfunction results in to psychological effects such as anxiety, depression, and social isolation.
