Interprofessional collaboration increases patient safety as it enables all healthcare providers to communicate crucial information regarding patient care. Communication is very crucial in providing urgent care to patients suffering from life-threatening conditions. For instance, if the patient is receiving treatment for Diabetes, the entire care management team should be aware of the plan of care and this protects the patient from any harm that may arise in care delivery. Interprofessional collaboration provides high-quality care as the team members provide the best care to the patients. Team members work together to provide more effective and diverse treatment options. A collaborative approach is utilized to minimize the injuries and mistakes that occur when healthcare providers cannot work together (Henson, 2022). Additionally, interprofessional collaboration lowers the occurrence of medical errors. The collaboration between the medical assistants and nurses helps doctors identify the problems that might occur in care provision. This collaboration is helpful when the physicians feel stressed or rushed and it helps mitigates costly mistakes that occur in healthcare. It also allows physicians to share their expertise with other people in the same field, assists them in learning new technologies, and gain a deep understanding of the needs of the patients (Henson, 2022).

One example of an emerging trend in healthcare is value-based care. Value-based care reimburses the healthcare providers based on the quality of care provided. It does not reimburse healthcare providers based on mere volume but based on the efficient care provided. The mode of reimbursement imposes penalties for failure to meet quality and cost targets. This model requires more interprofessional collaboration as given that it reimburses quality care, all the healthcare providers must work together to derive the best patient outcomes and lower healthcare costs (Guilford-Blake, 2020).
