One of the formal roles where a nurse occupies a position of leadership is that of a nurse manager. Nurse Managers are a symbol of guidance and authority and they are entrusted with administrative duties. They should have leadership characteristics and educational backgrounds that align with the Christian worldview in executing their duties. It is the responsibility of nurse managers to ensure that nurses provide compassionate and efficient care that aligns with the healthcare policies. Also, nurse managers ensure that nurses provide safe, compassionate, and efficient care that aligns with healthcare policies (ANA, 2023). In balancing both care provision and administrative roles, nurse managers must be motivated to adhere to ethical care provision and healthcare policies. Nurse Managers must have at least a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) as well as additional training and certifications in leadership.
Explain what leadership traits, styles, or qualities are required to be successful in this role and why. How do these traits, styles, or qualities align with the Christian worldview?
For nurse managers to be successful in their roles, they should be transformational leaders. They should take up the role of fostering a positive work environment characterized by encouragement, innovation, and motivation. Nurse Managers should possess effective communication skills, integrity, and empathy as these attributes guide their decision-making (Alan & Baykal, 2021). It is crucial for nurse managers to utilize these characteristics in their daily practice and this fosters resilience and adaptability in healthcare.
The leadership qualities, styles, and traits of the nurse managers align with the Christian worldview as Christianity emphasizes on selflessness, integrity, and compassion which are the moral compass of the nurse manager. Christians are called to serve other people and this is central to nurse leadership. The Alignment of nurse management traits with Christian teachings is not a coincidence and this instills a sense of purpose in the nursing profession. This creates a connection between nurses' professional practice and personal faith.
