Sample Answer
According to the textbook, nurses in various settings are adopting a research-based (or evidence-based) practice that incorporates research findings into their decisions and interactions with patients. How do you see this being applied in your workplace?
Healthcare organizations use Evidence-based Based Practice (EBP) to provide quality and safe care that is essential in improving health outcomes. In my workplace, EBP is utilized in all the healthcare departments. For instance, on the gastrointestinal floor, colostomy and ileostomy placement are done regularly. Implementation of EBP in healthcare yields the best health outcomes compared to the traditional methods for healthcare delivery. During surgeries, patients are advised to ambulate within 4 hours after the operation and take 500mls of liquid within 8 hours post-operation before indulging in their regular diet. Before surgery, patients receive education on pre and post-surgery operations.
In addition, how can you strive to make spirituality and self-care a practice for your patients as well as yourself?
Spirituality in healthcare ensures that the patients’ holistic needs are met. Sometimes, it is hard for me to provide spiritual care due to a heavy workload but I strive to do so (Green et al., 2020). During the time of illness, the patients are usually alone and some feel as if God has abandoned them. I fill up this gap by developing a rapport with the patients and ensuring that they are comfortable in the care delivery process. One form of spirituality is ensuring that the patient's environment is clean, their room is clean, and adhering to the doctor's plan of care. I provide interventions such as a warm blanket, aromatherapy interventions, and cooling when necessary. I also take time to lead the patients in devotion and prayer and seek spiritual leaders' intervention upon request. I am still getting accustomed to prioritizing my self-care and I ensure that I see a therapist and take a walk at least 4 times in week.
How does this practice align with the Christian worldview?
My practice aligns with the Christian worldview as I strive to treat all patients with dignity. I strive every day to be a better nurse by ensuring that I provide care that meets the patient's needs, preferences, and values (Dahlke et al., 2020). I love all my patients and strive to provide them with high-quality care.
