Describe the fundamental principles of servant leadership.

Servant leaders are good listeners and they allow their subordinates to be heard. The leaders have empathy as they have an understanding of the feelings of the team members. Servant leaders are healers as they have an understanding of the importance of fixing the problems that arise in an organization. Self-awareness is a role of servant leaders as they have the ability to examine their behaviors and emotions (Indeed Editorial Team, 2023). Servant leaders are persuasive as they can convince the entire team and build consensus. The leaders can think beyond small tasks and communicate the bigger goals to the teams. This ensures that the team members are motivated to focus on achieving the organizational goals. Servant leaders have foresight as they are aware of the importance of learning from past mistakes and using the lessons learned to evaluate their actions. Highly effective servant leaders have stewardship as they have an understanding of the importance of the responsibilities bestowed upon them. Additionally, servant leaders are committed to the growth of the teams and they build a community that encourages collaboration and engagement in the organizations.

Present two qualities of servant leadership and explain how they support interprofessional communication in providing patient care.

The first quality that enhances interprofessional communication is accountability. Accountability is essential in helping nurses to foster trusting relationships that result in positive patient outcomes. Accountable leaders can establish dependable and trustworthy relationships with their subordinates and this will make communication flow more smoothly. Servant leaders are assertive and they are aware of their limitations, they feel confident and secure and they can seek help from other people. Assertiveness among the servant leaders equips them with the ability to delegate tasks to the right people and at the right time (Townend, 2021). They can communicate with the subordinates to determine if they are well suited for the task.
