One of the crucial aspects of the healthcare system in the United States is financing. This aspect defines how healthcare delivery is paid for. There is a need to improve healthcare financing through the value-based model of payment. According to the value-based care model, healthcare providers are reimbursed according to the quality of care provided. Reimbursement of healthcare is done by monitoring the realization of positive patient outcomes. This model of reimbursement is essential in reducing healthcare costs and improving patient outcomes. The measures of quality healthcare in the value-based payment effectiveness of care provided, the efficiency of care, equity in the provision of care in terms of gender, race, and income, provision of patient-centered care, safety care provision and timeliness of care provided (The Commonwealth Fund, 2023).

Implementation of the value-based model of reimbursement is likely to cause a shift in the delivery and financing of healthcare services. It emphasizes more on the efficiency and quality of healthcare provided. This model of reimbursement is essential for the improvement of patient health outcomes and lowers the costs that are associated with unnecessary treatment (Teisberg et al., 2020). Implementation of the model would generate significant changes in the manner in which healthcare is financed and managed and the payers of healthcare services need to participate in refining the model. This is essential in ensuring that the different needs, preferences, and values of the patients are met in the care provided. Additionally, it is essential for the United States healthcare system to invest in new systems and infrastructures to measure and evaluate the delivery of care services. Thus, it is without doubt that utilization of the value-based payment model is essential in meeting the goals in healthcare and this would require making significant investments in the healthcare infrastructure.
