What is your personal worldview? Connect your worldview to cultural and spiritual humility.
As a Christian, I believe in the importance of humility in providing spiritual and culturally competent care. The Bible emphasizes the importance of humility as it emphasizes the importance of valuing all people as they are all created in God's image in Genesis 1:27 (Angeliese, 2021). Jesus himself showed humility by dying on the cross in Philippians 2:8. Paul, in Colossians 2: 13, encouraged the Christians to serve others with kindness, compassionate hearts, meekness, humility, and patience. The behavior will be able to yield positive effects as in Proverbs 22:4, God promises honor and riches for those who are humble and fear the Lord. In Matthew 23:12, Jesus promises that a person who exalts himself will be humbled and those who humble themselves will be exalted.
How will your worldview and cultural and spiritual humility affect your role and scope of practice as an advanced registered nurse? Consider both the provision of safe, quality care to diverse populations and interprofessional relationships.
Cultural and spiritual humility guides me in providing high-quality and safe care to patients from diverse programs. Provision of spiritual care is an important element in appealing to the emotional wellness of patients especially those suffering from chronic and deadly diseases. As a nurse, I directly interact with the patients and other healthcare providers to provide individualized patient care. There are various ways that I can provide spiritual care to the patients. In doing so, I must have a complete understanding of how spirituality manifests itself, conduct screening for any spiritual distress, and engage in spiritual assessment (Nissen et al., 2021). All through, I keep in mind that spirituality cannot be assessed immediately but continually and I should appreciate that patients have diverse spiritual needs. I am obligated to provide culturally competent care that considers the cultural values, beliefs, and needs of the patients. In doing so, I should appreciate that all the patients have unique cultural needs that should be met. These needs are met by considering and respecting the cultural needs of the patients.
