Interprofessional Team Dynamics
Interprofessional teams in nursing departments typically include nurses, advanced practice registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists, pharmacists, social workers, physicians, and unlicensed assistive personnel. Each member contributes unique expertise to patient care delivery.
Compassion in Nursing
Compassion is a process where nurses actively communicate with patients to explore their concerns and understand their situation. Nurses demonstrate compassion by showing interest in patients' lives, exercising patience, and never invalidating feelings (Babaei et al., 2022). Compassionate care ensures treatment aligns with patient values and preferences.
Advocacy for Patient Interests
Nurses advocate for patients by ensuring the entire care team is aware of patient wishes, upholding autonomy by respecting care decisions, and providing knowledge about financial and social support resources (Abuhammad et al., 2021).
Building Resilience
Resilient nurses adapt to difficult situations and deal with job-related issues such as depression, anxiety, and burnout. Through interprofessional support, nurses build resilience by encouraging gratitude, acknowledging strengths, and engaging in meditation (Henshall et al., 2020).
Evidence-Based Practice
EBP enables healthcare providers to integrate skills, knowledge, and literature research. The process involves acquiring best evidence, appraising for validity, applying in decision-making, and assessing treatment outcomes (ANA, 2023).
